Weather
In the summer months the wind in the Ionian and the
Aegean Sea is predominantly from the north. It is called The Meltemi.
The Meltemi begins blowing in June and
early July and reaches full strength in July and August.
It dies off at the end of September and early October.
In the Central Aegean (Cyclades) it blows from the north, and in the South Aegean from
northwest.
In strength it varies from Force 4 to Force 8.
The Meltemi blows stronger in the Central Aegean and less in the
South/ Southeast Aegean and in the Ionian. The Meltemi makes the wind conditions in
Greece more predictable and easier to navigate than in other areas of the Mediterranean
Sea. Depending on your experience you can choose a region with more or less wind.
